SOS! SaveOurSkin: Winter Edition

I asked a couple of my friends what their most pressing skin issue currently is and a bunch of them mentioned the harsh winters we have in Canada. Dry, itchy, cracked skin is left after trying to deal with the extreme temperatures. I find going from indoors to outdoors as well does a number on my skin.

The obvious things I can suggest would be to wear gear that will full protect your skin (hats, scarves, I am even contemplating buying one of those ski masks just so my skin won’t be so expose. Other things I recommend are; stay hydrated (because water=life), moisturize well and don’t forget that SPF!

For me, my skin tends to get very dry, no matter how much I moisturize, so here is a really effective face routine I do to keep my skin soft and supple during the winter months.

First, I give my face a good old steam bath. Basically you just fill a bowl up with hot water, put a towel over your head and stick you face in the bowl, not deep enough that your face is touching the water, but that the steam can open your pores and clean ‘em right out. Stay there for 10-15 minutes.

The next step is to exfoliate all the dead skin. You can either use the St.Ives Apricot scrub or for added brightening, use a lemon wedge dipped in sugar and scrub away! After rinsing your face with cold water (to close those pores), be sure to moisturize. You should now have a better base to work with for makeup, or just brighter, cleaner skin!
